The Process and Costs

Before the appointment: You will be sent a detailed questionnaire to complete and return

Initial consultation:  45 minutes for history and examination including blood pressure and body composition. A blood test will be taken.

Follow up 1-2 weeks later: 20 minutes - hormone blood test results will be discussed. If something is prescribed, your prescription will be sent to a pharmacy and you can call them to order your medication, which will be posted out to you. 

Follow up 2 months later:  This is a progress review and  any adjustments to treatment will be made as necessary.

Follow up usually 2-6 months thereafter:  This is a progress review and  any adjustments to treatment will be made as necessary.

Follow up thereafter 6-10 monthly:  This is a progress review and  any adjustments to treatment will be made as necessary.

All consultations are carried out in person or via telephone or Skype. Initial appointments must be carried out in person and every patient must have a face to face appointment at least annually.  Regular face to face (as opposed to telephone or skype) appointments are advised. If you need a translator, please bring someone who can translate who is over 18 years old.

 Tests

Blood tests will be taken at your first appointment. We also offer health screening:

Female Health Screen: Cervical smear plus HPV, ovarian cancer screen with blood test and ultrasound, DEXA bone density scan. Mammograms are offered on the NHS but we can refer privately for mammograms or breast ultrasounds if required.

 Male Health Screen: PSA and transrectal ultrasound, ultrasound screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm in men over 60.

Advanced health screening:  more in-depth blood tests are available such as

- fasting glucose and insulin tolerance test

- cardiovascular risk profiling (apoA and B ratio, PLAC test, homocysteine)

- STD screening

-and referral for further investigation as needed

Timing of Tests

Women:  If you are having monthly periods, please do blood tests 21 days after the first day of your last period.If you are having irregular periods, please do blood tests at least 16 days after your last period. If you are not having periods  you can do the blood tests at anytime.If you are on a contraceptive pill, please stop the pill, wait at least 6 weeks and then do blood tests. If you have a coil or HRT, you can do blood tests without removing your coil or stopping your HRT. You do not have to be fasting for any of the blood tests.

Men:  Please do the blood tests on any day in the morning. You do not have to be fasting for any of the blood tests.

NB:   Men and women already taking bio-identical hormones should do the blood tests exactly 4 hours after taking their morning dose of hormones to reduce variables when monitoring levels over time.
