Bioidentical hormones are precise duplicates of the body's own hormones. Non-bioidentical hormones include conjugated oestrogens or synthetic progestins . Bioidentical hormones may be prescribed in a few existing licensed standardised dose products, or if doses need to be indivudaulaised to meet a patient's otherwise unmet needs then we can use a compounding pharmacy to make up a prescription tailored to the individual's needs. Compounded hormone preparations, by virtue of being individualised will be unlicensed. Prescribing unlicensed compounded hormones requires ongoing monitoring (for example with pelvic ultrasound scans to ensure that the lining of the womb remains thin and hormone tests), compliance with recommended dosages and regular follow up. Most patients. You have the option to use licensed standardised dose hormone prodcuts or unlicensed compounded bioidentical hormone products where the dose is individualised for you. Options will be discussed on an ongoing basis and the final decision of what feels right for you is always yours.
Yes. Diet and lifestyle has a huge impact on our hormonal health. We believe in the principles of eat well, move well, sleep well and will always include this in the treatment plan. We can recommend relevant functional medicine tests where there is a need to explore your symptoms further.
We will decide this issue with each patient individually. Circumstances may differ depending on age, symptoms and lifestyle factors.
We test hormone levels before prescribing and on an ongoing basis. The hormone testing that we do is not available on the NHS and please understand that we therefore will not ask the NHS to carry this out. If you have had blood tests done recently with your NHS GP please bring all recent/relevant test results with you to your appointment.
Blood tests or urine tests for hormones may be done when your symptoms have changed.
Often when we start treatment, people will notice a difference within the first three weeks but give it up to 8 weeks – this is when we meet to review. However, sometimes it can take longer, in which case we will work closely with you to get the balance right.
Continue taking your hormones as you normally would. There is no need to take extra to compensate for the missed dose.
No. A referral from your GP is not necessary. It is important that you are registered with an NHS GP though and London Bioidentical Hormones is always happy to write to your GP at any stage.

Yes . We do offer telephone or Skype consultations and we can see patients who live abroad, but we still ask that initial appointments are in person, and a minimum number of appointments per year are conducted in person as we believe that face to face appointments offer a much better service for you. Please see Treatment Schedule for an idea of how often we expect to have appointments.
